A Water Sustainability Project Gets $5.5 Million in Estimates


The Water Programme for Environment Sustainability Project (WPA) has received an allocation of $5.5 million in the 2010/11 Estimates of Expenditures now before the House of Representatives.
This project was established to upgrade the Water Resources Master Plan and assess the potential for water related developments and the resource capacity to meet present and future demands.
The scope of the project includes the establishment of a monitoring network, the commencement of a water monitoring exercise and to continue water resource survey and investigation.
The programme is funded by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and the Government of Jamaica. It began in April 2009 and has been extended until February 2012.
Its targets include the establishment of a monitoring network, to carry out routine resource assessments, the execution of water monitoring exercises, to conduct water resources survey and investigations, and to complete Water Balance Computations.
