The Full Story

The Jamaica Productivity Centre will be partnering with Japanese product improvement specialist, Makoto Oyama, to provide technical assistance to a number of public and private sector organisations over the next two years.
Mr. Oyama, who has over 30 years of experience in his field, was assigned to the centre recently to provide technical assistance to small and medium sized enterprises, as well as Government entities.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, Andrew Gallimore, in welcoming Mr. Oyama said that his expertise was well needed.
According to Mr. Gallimore, Mr. Oyama’s presence will encourage constructive criticism that can help local industries develop into internationally recognised organisations.
“Having Mr. Oyama here, is going to give us an opportunity to see some of our industries from a different standpoint. It’s an experienced set of eyes coming from a different background, working and helping to build international organisations”, he asserted.
“Once he is made aware of the different industries and how they operate, he will be giving tremendous guidance in the direction that we should take”, Minister Gallimore assured.
During his assignment Mr. Oyama will be utilising productivity tools to streamline systems and processes, working alongside local productivity specialists.
Mr. Oyama is from the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA), an independent administrative institution which contributes to the promotion of international cooperation, as well as the sound development, recovery or economic stability of developing regions.
