In the new academic year, the Ministry of Education will begin contributing an additional $2,000 towards auxiliary fees for the 82,181 students on the Programme of Advancement Through Health and Education (PATH).
Education Minister, Hon. Rev. Ronald Thwaites, says this will provide additional financial relief to numerous schools, particularly those with a large number of PATH beneficiaries.
Rev. Thwaites made the announcement during his contribution to the 2014/15 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, May 7.
Minister Thwaites encouraged parents to view auxiliary fees as a contribution to their children’s education.
“A reasonable contribution to school cost is a necessary supplement to the $11,500 tuition which government pays,” he added.
He said that last year, strong intent to contribute was evident in the high percentage of parents who entered into arrangements with schools.
“This year auxiliary fees will not normally be increased but parents must arrange to pay and cannot simply ignore this obligation,” he said.
