The Full Story

One hundred and fifty six residents in Seaview and Arnett Gardens are to receive their land titles on February 26 and 27.

Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing, with responsibility for Housing, Hon. Dr. Morais Guy, will hand over 70 titles in Seaview Gardens (Phase 2) on February 26, while 86 residents of Arnett Gardens will receive their documents on February 27.

The Seaview Gardens housing development was established under the Sites and Services Programme of the 1970s, in response to the need for urban renewal and the provision of decent shelter solutions for low income families. Hundreds of residents in the community have already received their titles.

The Arnett Gardens community underwent an overhaul in its housing stock in the 1970s that resulted in the construction of 1,000 housing units, which replaced wooden shacks.

The Housing Ministry has increased its involvement in the community over the past year, seeking to address the concerns of the many residents who have been occupying the units without formal ownership.

Through the work of the Ministry to regularize occupancy of the units and provide security of tenure, scores of the residents have concluded the process of acquiring their certificates of title.
