Jetport to be Opened at Boscobel Aerodrome

A new jetport is to be opened up at the Boscobel Aerodrome in St. Mary, as part of a pilot initiative to encourage more affluent vacationers to fly their private jets to Jamaica.
“We will provide this as a port of entry with customs and immigration stations there too,” said Transport and Works Minister, Michael Henry, during his contribution to the 2008/09 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on May 28.
The Minister stated that this initiative will be copied at the Ken Jones Aerodrome in Portland as an interim measure, to precede one of the major thrusts of Prime Minister, Bruce Golding, which is to establish a permanent facility at Duckenfield, St. Thomas.
“Duckenfield will serve as a jet port for the eastern region of the island, thus promoting the development of the parishes of St. Thomas and Portland as a new tourist destination,” Mr. Henry said.
