The National Housing Trust (NHT) is encouraging contributors who are experiencing challenges in meeting their mortgage obligations to contact the organisation early, in order to explore the assistance that may be available.
Senior Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Coordinator, Danielle Edwards, emphasised that early communication is critical when contributors encounter financial challenges.
She noted that the Trust provides special assistance to mortgagors who have encountered hardships affecting their ability to repay loans.
However, each request is assessed on its own merit, and where appropriate, support may be offered through available loan modification or forbearance arrangements.
“[We] are understanding and we have several options to help you. If life throws you a curveball… job loss, illness, whatever it is, any hardship… the key is to pick up the phone and contact the NHT early,” Ms. Edwards told JIS News.
She reiterated that the Trust remains committed to supporting contributors throughout their homeownership journey.
“From new housing opportunities to smart mortgage management and staying on track for your benefits from the NHT, the [Trust] is there to support you on your journey home,” she added.
Ms. Edwards advised that contributors have several convenient channels available for making mortgage payments.
“Payments can be made through salary deduction, standing order, online, in branch or over telephone banking,” she explained.
However, where mortgages are already in arrears and subject to public auction, private treaty, or litigation, payments cannot be made through the online facility.
In such cases, payments must be made directly to an NHT cashier or to the external attorney handling the matter on the Trust’s behalf.
