Ministry Overview
Ministry of Water, Environment and Climate Change
Mr. Wayne Robertson
JPThe Ministry of Water, Environment and Climate Change (MWECC) was established to provide focused leadership in advancing Jamaica’s mission of universal access to safe water, environmental sustainability, climate mitigation, adaptation and resilience.
This mandate is critical in the face of increasing climate-related risks, such as hurricanes, droughts, and sea-level rise, that threaten national development, economic stability, and the well-being of citizens. These challenges underscore the imperative for integrated governance and strategic action to safeguard Jamaica’s natural resources, strengthen infrastructure, and build resilience across all sectors.
The Ministry’s agenda is structured to align with Vision 2030 Jamaica, the country’s long-term development plan, and directly contributes to National Goal 3: A Prosperous Economy and National Goal 4: A Healthy Natural Environment. By modernizing policy and legislative frameworks, promoting sustainable resource management, and enhancing climate mitigation, adaptation and resilience, MWECC supports the creation of a strong economic foundation and a sustainable environment for future generations.
