March 6, 2008

The Full Story

Prime Minister Bruce Golding and Mrs. Lorna Golding, yesterday (Mar. 5) paid a special visit to Lady Bustamante who will celebrate her 96th birthday on Saturday March 8th. At that time, Mr. Golding will be away on official duties at the 19th Inter-sessional meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government in the Bahamas.
Mr. Golding said he was pleased at how well Lady B was being cared for and paid special tribute to her caregivers, who he said were doing a marvelous job. He also held discussions with Mr. Seragh Lakasingh, Chairman of the Bustamante Foundation, about plans for the official opening of the Bustamante Museum later this year.
Lady Bustamante is the widow of the late former Prime Minister of Jamaica and National Hero, Sir Alexander Bustamante. She worked tirelessly to advance the rights of women and it is therefore coincidental that her birthday is celebrated on International Women’s Day.
Prime Minister Golding was accompanied on the visit by Minister of Health and the Environment, Ruddy Spencer and Mr. and Mrs. Seragh Lakasingh.
