The Court Administration Division (CAD) will spearhead a Traffic Ticket Public Day on March 4 at the St. Catherine Parish Court.
This is aimed at quickly clearing thousands of outstanding traffic ticket matters currently before the court in the parish.
Director of Client Services, Communications and Information at the CAD, Kadiesh Jarrett-Fletcher, told JIS News that the initiative is intended to facilitate the orderly and efficient disposition of traffic ticket matters.
“I want to make it clear that this is not an amnesty, as the Court is not authorised to do an amnesty. We are targeting persons who would have received traffic tickets anywhere in the parish of St. Catherine… not paid the fines at the tax collectorate and who would have missed their court dates… they are to come to court [on March 4],” she explained.
Mrs. Jarrett‑Fletcher added, “We want persons to register using any of the available registration mediums so that their matters can be listed for court on March 4 and dealt with then.”
Registration opened on January 20 and will remain open until midnight on February 20.
It applies to traffic tickets issued on or after February 1, 2018.
Persons may register by sending an email with their Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN) and a copy of their traffic ticket to traffictickets@jamaicajudiciary.gov.jm, or by using the WhatsApp number 876‑453‑5060.
“There will be a help desk at the St. Catherine Parish Court to assist those persons who want to walk in to register. Once persons have registered, we are going to list those matters for March 4 and we will communicate to those persons the times that those matters have been listed for court and the time that they are to show up for court to have their hearing,” Mrs. Jarret-Fletcher informed.
If persons no longer have the physical traffic ticket that was issued to them, they may instead complete registration using the online system.
“Those persons can visit trafficticketlookup.gov.jm to find out if they have outstanding tickets. They can, of course, get the printout and send that in to us,” the Director indicated.
Mrs. Jarrett‑Fletcher emphasised the importance of registration for individuals seeking to benefit from the initiative, pointing out that this “helps us to manage the court’s caseload in a structured and lawful manner”.
“Also, the court has to look for the original ticket and have that listed for court… it’s not just the printouts that the persons have. That is why it’s important that persons register to guarantee that you have a space on that court list for March 4,” she said.
Mrs. Jarrett-Fletcher cautioned that, “if you don’t [register] and you just turn up on the day, there is a possibility that you may not get through because we can only facilitate walk-ins if the numbers allow.”
