We live in a fast-paced information age, where everything is at our fingertips. We eat fast-food, for which we don’t even deign to dine-in: we collect it at drive-thru windows, from our cars, already impatiently on-the-go… consuming social media packaged in 30-sec Tik-Tok reels, expressing ourselves in 140-character tweets.
In this age it’s almost impossible for some to conceive of a 36-year commitment to a single organization and a lifetime of public service. Not so for a public servant who is being awarded a national honour. The Badge of Honour for Long and Faithful Service in Government.
Technical Officer at the Jamaica Information Service, JIS, Mr Kavanaugh Campbell received an extraordinary New Years gift: an offer of employment thirty-six years ago. He takes us back to that moment.
