The Full Story

The government is committed to supporting artistes and ensuring that they have the necessary tools and opportunities to thrive, says Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Hon. Olivia Grange.

“Jamaica stands proud, ready to showcase its rich cultural heritage and the talents of its artistes. The Ministry encourages all stakeholders in the entertainment industry to seize the opportunity to elevate Jamaica’s profile on the world stage,” she added.

Minister Grange was speaking to reporters at the Timeless Concert featuring legendary American singer Dionne Warwick at Plantation Cove, St. Ann, on March 29.

Highlighting the important role artistes play in promoting brand Jamaica, she welcomed the reinstatement of visas by the United States for several top local entertainers.

Minister Grange noted the positive implications of this development, not only in boosting the earnings of the artistes but for promoting Jamaica’s cultural export and economic potential.

“It’s a good look for these entertainers who play a critical role in the global music landscape, particularly in reggae.

There is a worldwide audience for reggae music, and our entertainers’ ability to travel to major markets like the United States augurs well not only for the genre but also for brand Jamaica as a whole,” she argued.

She noted that while these artists are entertainers, they are also ambassadors for Jamaica.

“Their travels not only promote Jamaican culture but also inspire young and upcoming talents to pursue their dreams while upholding the values of their country,” she pointed out.

“Through their music, they can do a lot for Jamaica. We believe that their success will resonate beyond borders and encourage others to strive for excellence,” she affirmed.
