The Ministry of Legal and Constitutional Affairs has filled 70 per cent of the posts on its establishment.
Portfolio Minister, Hon. Marlene Malahoo Forte, made the disclosure during Thursday’s (March 6) meeting of the Standing Finance Committee of the House of Representatives, whose members are reviewing the 2025/26 Estimates of Expenditure.
The Ministry was established in January 2022 to take charge of and give focused attention to the Government’s legislative agenda and its legal and constitutional reform aspirations.
“We also have been strengthening the organisational capacity and efficiency of the Ministry to deliver results, and to this end we continue to recruit. The work of the Ministry is highly technical and highly specialised and we have to ensure that we recruit those who are appropriately qualified and sufficiently experienced to enable us to achieve our goals,” she explained.
Mrs. Malahoo Forte shared that the Ministry copped first place for its strategic planning from the Cabinet Office due to the “very focused and detailed attention we are paying to ensure that we get to the outcome in the best interest of our people”.
She further noted that the Ministry proposes to restructure the Legal Reform Department, the Office of the Parliamentary Counsel and the Law Revision Secretariat.
“We had approval from the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service in this regard and we’re expected to have increased output and productivity at the end,” Mrs. Malahoo Forte said.
