A commemorative service to mark International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025 will be held at the Church of the Open Bible, 12 Washington Boulevard, Kingston, on Sunday, March 2, beginning 10:15 a.m.
This service is part of the Bureau of Gender Affairs’ (BGA) activities in observance of IWD on Saturday, March 8, under the theme: ‘A Celebration of Jamaican Women’.
These activities will highlight Jamaican women, their stories and their outstanding contributions to gender equality. The theme focuses on honouring Jamaican women across all sectors of society, particularly those in traditionally male-dominated fields.
A release from the BGA advised that the Bureau will host a Women’s Entrepreneurship Expo on March 8.
The event aims to provide women entrepreneurs with a platform to showcase their products.
Participants will have the chance to engage with various booth holders. These include those focusing on women’s health and economic empowerment, along with other gender-specific issues.
“Women entrepreneurs along with companies and institutions are invited to participate in the event,” the release stated.
IWD has been observed since the early 1900s and is celebrated annually on March 8.
It serves as an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
This year’s international theme is: ‘Accelerate Action for All Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment’.
