The Government remains committed to reducing major crimes, improving public order, and enhancing public safety.
Custos of Kingston, Hon. Steadman Fuller, who delivered the 2025/26 Throne Speech at the ceremonial opening of Parliament on Thursday (February 13), said that significant progress has been made in modernising Jamaica’s anti-crime policies and legislative framework to achieve these goals in accordance with Plan Secure Jamaica.
“Amendments to the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency Act and the Interception of Communications Act have strengthened investigative tools, enabling more effective action against organised crime and firearm offences,” he said.
Custos Fuller, who deputised for Governor General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen, noted that border security is being modernised through the National Visa Policy and amendments to the Immigration Restriction (Commonwealth Citizens) Act and the Aliens Act.
“The review of the National Correctional Services Policy and Corrections Act reinforces the Government’s commitment to offender rehabilitation and reintegration. Integrating legislation, technology, infrastructure, and social investment is creating a safer Jamaica,” he said.
Furthermore, he said the JamaicaEye closed-circuit television (CCTV) network is expanding, and the C5 Security Business Solution contract is advancing data-driven policing.
He noted that ongoing repairs and construction of police stations, divisional headquarters, and the near completion of the Forensic Pathology Autopsy Suite, are also enhancing law-enforcement capacity.
The speech was delivered under the theme ‘Jamaica’s Next Chapter: Aspiring to Greatness’.
The Throne Speech outlines the priority programmes and policies to be pursued by the Government in the new fiscal year, which begins on April 1.
