The Full Story

Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, says that “no stone will be left unturned” in apprehending those responsible for the brutal gun attack in Cherry Tree Lane, Clarendon, on Sunday night (August 11).

He made the declaration during a visit to the community on Monday (August 12), where he met with relatives of the eight persons killed and residents.

He said that all measures must be extended to bring the perpetrators to justice as quickly as possible.

“We are going to put the resources behind it and will find the people who are responsible. We will go after all the gangs, their connections, links and persons who facilitate their activities,” he vowed.

“Be it the financing, the international cooperation or the legislative support, they will be made available to the security forces to pursue this relentlessly. They (killers) might either meet a judge or meet their maker; whichever one they chose, but Jamaica cannot countenance this kind of crime,” he said, noting that Sunday’s gun attack was “calculated” to deliver the highest level of terror.

The Prime Minister noted that increased focus is being placed on organised crime and the people who finance and produce violence.

He noted that a directive has been given to rid the country of gangs and “I am absolutely resolved that we will conquer this problem”.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister is imploring residents who have information concerning the murders to tell what they know to the police.

“You are doing yourself a favour by sharing the information. The gangs have managed to convince citizens that they are protectors, but the innocent people must see the police as being on their side”, he said.
