A special offering will be collected for victims of Hurricane Beryl at the Jamaica ’62 Emancipation and Independence Church Service scheduled to take place on Sunday, (July 28), at the Grace Missionary Church, 7 West Avenue, Kingston 8.

Recovery efforts are ongoing across the island to assist communities, especially in the southwestern coast of Jamaica, which was hardest hit by the hurricane.

The Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport is hosting the church service, under the theme ‘Jamaica 62: One Love…To the World’, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Events Coordinator of National Religious Services, Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), Andrea McCurdy, told JIS News that the Jamaica Red Cross will receive the special offering at the service.

She noted that the support will assist “victims of Hurricane Beryl who are having difficulty getting back on their feet because of the disaster they have experienced”.

Portfolio Minister, Hon. Olivia Grange, will bring greetings at the service, which is expected to be attended by Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness and Leader of the Opposition, Mark Golding.

Guest speaker is Pastor of Lighthouse Assembly Church of God, Spanish Town, Bishop Rowan Edwards.

It will be moderated by the Chairman, Committee for the Promotion of National Religious Services, Bishop Christine Gooden Benguche, who is also Chair of the Jamaica Council of Churches.

It will be streamed live on the Jamaica Information Service and the JCDC social media platforms.
