72-year-old Melrose Cameron has dedicated 49 years of service to Jamaica’s education sector as a teacher and early-childhood education officer. She was awarded the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA), Golden Torch Award for sterling service to the education sector at a JTA award ceremony at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston on July 11. Miss Cameron shared that she did not start out in education because it was her grandmother’s dream for her to work in a hospital. Her first job was a ward assistant at a hospital, but deep-down Miss Cameron knew she wanted to teach.
