The game of chess is played by two people, each using 16 different playing pieces with a prescribed set of moves, around a checkered square board. The pieces include: 8 pawns, 2 bishops, 2 knights, 2 rooks, a queen, and a king. Each piece has its own value and specified directions in which it can move.
