COVID-19 Safety – After-School Rules

The Ministry of Education and Youth (MOEY) has approved the full resumption of face-to-face learning effective Monday, March 7, 2022. In order to decrease the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) MOEY and the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) have outlined after-school protocols for protecting children who are returning to school as well as the adults who interact with them. The MOHW encourages parents to reinforce the preventative guidelines to keep school children from contracting and spreading COVID-19. Children should be encouraged to adhere to the protocols, which are as follows:
• Immediately wash hands with soap and water.
• Remove mask (if disposable) and discard in a bin. If the mask is washable, place it in a container used to store dirty clothes to be washed.
• Remove school clothes and turn them inside out or place them in a container used to store dirty clothes to be washed.
• If clothes will be worn again before being washed, hang them in sunlight.
• Shower immediately, if possible.
• Stay away from other members of the household who are ill.
• Tell a parent or other adult family member if they are not feeling well and stay away from others in the house.
• Continue to frequently wash hands with soap and water.
• Always wear a mask when they are leaving home.
Additionally, MOEY has outlined reminders for school administrators, urging them to ensure compliance with the wearing of masks and frequent washing of hands. Along with these precautions, school staff should conduct regular temperature checks and monitor students for signs of illness.
