Attorney General’s Chambers Handles 1,006 New Cases

A total of 1,006 new cases were assigned within the various divisions of the Attorney General’s Chambers for the period April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021.
Attorney General, Marlene Malahoo Forte, made the disclosure during her contribution to the 2021/22 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on Wednesday (April 28).
She noted that 398 cases were assigned to the Litigation Division [representing] “more than one per day, with an average of already over 200 matters per attorney”.
In addition, 90 new cases were assigned to the Commercial Affairs Division, 114 to the Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Division, 344 to the General Legal Advice Division, and 60 for the International Affairs Division.
In the meantime, Mrs. Malahoo Forte told the House that the database for the library housed within the Human Resource Management and Administration Division is currently being updated to add new categories.
These relate to Proclamations, Rules and Regulations, Extraordinary Gazettes and Judgments from the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal.
She indicated that, so far, 773 gazettes and 140 judgments have been added.
Mrs. Malahoo Forte noted that the Attorney General’s Chambers is looking to establish an Integrated Library Management System, which will enable attorneys to have access to the library from any location or device.
