The establishment of a United Nations (UN) House in Jamaica is to be completed during the upcoming financial year, with an allotment of $500,000.
The funds have been set aside in the 2021/22 Estimates of Expenditure, now before the House of Representatives.
The money will be used for the completion of external works at Block 11, 14-16 Port Royal Street, Kingston, to enable the building to be used as the UN House. These include installing fencing and security systems, and undertaking softscaping and hardscaping.
Up to December 2020 under the project, demolition activities on sections of the building were completed and renovation of floors one to three undertaken.
The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation through the National Land Agency (NLA), with funding from the Government of Jamaica.
The original duration of the project was April 2017 to March 2019, but following further extensions, it is now slated to end in March 2022.
