No Contract was awarded for Maggotty Water System – Pickersgill

Minister of Water, Land, Environment and Climate Change, Hon. Robert Pickersgill, has informed that no contract has been awarded for the expansion of the Maggotty water system, to supply potable water to the districts of White Hill and Carisbrook, in St. Elizabeth.

“This project was approved for funding in the 2011/12 budget. Although the project was tendered, no contract was awarded. Consequently, there is no contract to be signed for the start of work,” Mr. Pickersgill said.

The Water Minister was responding to questions about the project, raised by Member of Parliament for North West St. Elizabeth, William J.C. Hutchinson, in the House of Representatives on February 14.

Mr. Pickersgill also gave a progress report on the development of the New Market Water Supply System, where it was proposed that water should be pumped from the well at White Hall to a catchment tank in Kilmarnock.

“Although preliminary plans for the development of the New Market Water Supply System have been done, no approval has been given for the development of the New Market Water Supply System. Kilmarnock was never considered in the first phase, consequently I am not in a position to state when pipes will be laid for the supply of water to Kilmarnock,” the Minister said.
