The Full Story

Boys at the Muirton Child Care Facility in Manchioneal, Portland, recently received school supplies, educational materials, inspirational books, clothes and personal items courtesy of the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ). The gifts were handed over during a ceremony hosted at the facility.

The donation is in keeping with the PCJ’s corporate social responsibility programme, which aims to among other things, foster community development through youth empowerment and education.

“We consider it a privilege to encourage and support the children and staff of the Muirton Child Care Facility.  We hope that these gifts will ensure that they focus on their learning and development in the coming school term”, said Acting Manager of the PCJ’s Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy, Denise Tulloch.

Meanwhile, Manager of theChild Care Facility, Kevin Bryan, thanked the PCJ for its kindness and said that the donation would give the boys added motivation to apply themselves at school.

“This gesture by the PCJ certainly had a positive effect on the morale of the boys and demonstrated to them that Jamaica is still a caring society. More donations of this nature will definitely help to improve the quality of life of these boys”, he noted.

The Muirton Child Care Facility, formerly the Muirton Boys Home was established in March 1978 by the Government of Jamaica and the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica. It is managed under the auspices of the Child Development Agency. The boys in its care participate in a number of vocational activities such as arable and livestock farming. They are also enrolled in public schools, with some slated to attend the Heart Trust – NTA in the new school term.
