The Ministry of Culture Launches Miss Lou 100

The Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport has officially launched Miss Lou 100, a period of 100 days from September 1 to December 10, to mark the centenary of the birth of cultural icon Dr the Honourable Louise Bennett Coverley. The Jamaican Language Unit at the University of the West Indies will launch a campaign during the 100 days aimed at improving public perception of the language commonly called patois, with the wider objective of making the Jamaican language official. Former Coordinator of the Unit, Professor Emeritus Hubert Devonish visited the JIS recently to discuss the plans of the UWI during the 100 days.
