MONTEGO BAY — Residents of Westmoreland are being urged to come out on Labour Day 2011 to support the Westmoreland parish/national project at the Clifton Boys Home in Darliston.
The scope of work to be carried out at the facility involves the rebuilding of the front porch at an estimated cost of $665,000.
The technical department of the Westmoreland Parish Council, which did an assessment of the work, made a report to the parish Labour Day planning committee on May 11 in the council chambers in Savanna-la-Mar.
Mayor of Savanna-la-Mar, Bertel Moore, is appealing to businesses and individuals in the parish to contribute to the refurbishing of the home, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
He noted that the Clifton Boys home, over its five decades of existence, has accommodated and cared for boys from across Jamaica, so its services were not restricted to Westmoreland.
Mayor Moore said the work to be undertaken at the facility is extensive and will start before Labour Day, with the intent to complete it on the day.
Meanwhile, the Labour Day church service for Westmoreland is scheduled for Sunday, May 22 at the St. John’s Anglican Church in Darliston starting at 9:30 a.m.
Labour Day 2011 will be observed on Monday, May 23 under the theme: ‘It takes a village to raise a child’.
