A short while ago there were reports emerging in the media that there was an incident at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) where a bag exploded in the terminal.
Speaking with JIS News, Alfred McDonald, Senior Director, Commercial Development and Planning said that “as part of an exercise to test the emergency response mechanism of the airport, the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority authorised an incident that would take place in the airport terminal. It was executed without the knowledge of a number of the emergency responders so that the response system could be assessed.”
All aspects of the incident are now being evaluated.
Flights were not affected by this simulation exercise and all operations of the NMIA are back to normal.
