Two Guns Seized In Separate Incidents

Two guns were removed from the nation’s streets by the police in separate areas of St. Andrew yesterday.
Information received is that between of 6:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., a police party conducted an operation on the Maryland main road in the parish. During the operation, a
premises was searched and a Smith and Wesson .38 Revolver bearing serial number 7337 found. No one was arrested.
In the second incident, about 4:00 p.m. another operation was carried out in the Tavern area. On the approach of the police to a house, a group of men alighted with guns blazing. The lawmen returned the fire and when the smoke cleared one man was found in bushes with gunshot wounds. A Browning pistol – serial number 245NZ50086 – with a magazine containing four 9mm cartridges was taken from him. He was taken to the University Hospital where he died.
Later that day, two other men were intercepted by the police while in transit to hospital – one with gunshot injuries and is now under police guard, the other is in police lockup.
The Irish Town Police are investigating.
