Businesses Downtown Resuming Operations

President of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC), Milton Samuda, has said that downtown Kingston is returning to normal as businesses begin to resume operations.
Speaking with JIS News this morning (May 28), Mr. Samuda informed that he worked from his office on Ocean Boulevard on Thursday (May 27), and several businesses were in operation. He said that more should be open today.
“I anticipate and hope that it (business operations) will be fully back to normal by Monday,” the JCC President said, noting that the Jamaica Manufacturers’ Association’s Duke Street headquarters will be open on Monday.
Mr. Samuda said it is important that things get back to normal promptly, as the losses that have accrued due to the unrest have been tremendous for business operators and vendors.
“The losses, although we have not fully tabulated them, run into the hundreds of millions of dollars, and not only for the offices and stores. It important for the higglers and vendors as well because they need to make a living, so we need to get back to normal as quickly as is possible,” Mr. Samuda said.
He added that the JCC is resolute that the campaign against organised crime and gang-related control of communities must continue in a professional manner, and in accordance with the laws of Jamaica and with respect for the human rights of all citizens.
