The Government is to spend $65 million towards the construction and improvement of courthouses.

This is contained in the 2016/17 Estimates of Expenditure, now before the House of Representatives.

The objective of the project is to enhance court facilities, thereby improving the delivery of services in the justice system.

Anticipated targets for the financial year include the completion of all works on Public Buildings North (PBN), in downtown Kingston, and their commission into use; and the refurbishing of Public Building East (PBE), to achieve 100 per cent completion.

Work is also to commence on the refurbishing of Public Building West (PBW), while the Kingston Family Court is to be rehabilitated.

Funding is being provided by the Government of Jamaica, through the Consolidated Fund.
