Prime Minister Commits to Creation of Environment in Which Families Can Flourish

The administration is committed to creating an environment in which families can flourish and creating communities of upward social mobility, says Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness.

He is urging family members to do their part to support this realization, “by being personally, socially and economically responsible.”

The Prime Minister was delivering his inaugural address during Thursday’s (March 3) swearing in ceremony, at King’s House.

Mr. Holness said the Government will enhance the social safety net for vulnerable families and provide support for parents “in crisis.”

“But, you must be responsible and send your children to school. Our men must take care of their children, and couples must be responsible in having children they can (maintain),” he underscored.

Additionally, Mr. Holness said his administration will continue its policy of free tuition and no user fees for access to health care in public facilities.

“However, we encourage you to save in an education bond for your children’s education, and in a national health insurance scheme for your healthcare,” he added.

Mr. Holness emphasised that  as the Government moves to further increase the income tax threshold, beneficiaries must “spend and invest wisely.”

“Use the additional money to acquire a house for your family or improve the house you already have, or buy Jamaican-made goods. This is how we will increase local demand in housing, manufacturing, and agriculture. This is how you can play a part in creating jobs, while satisfying your well-being,” he said.
