The Full Story
The state-run Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) says that it is likely to earn $4 million daily from its new summer promotion, which began on July 5.
Speaking with JIS News, Marketing and Communications Manager at the JUTC, Clinton Clarke, said that they are hoping to have an additional 40,000 riders per day.
“This is what we have projected. If we were to look at those 40,000 added riders, that would be about four million dollars per day,” he noted.
The promotion, which runs until August 29, allows adults and some children to pay $100 to travel on JUTC buses.
Student passengers between 12 and 20 years old have to pay the same fare as adults, because their concession fare was suspended when the school year ended recently.
Concession rates will resume when the school year commences in early September.
Meanwhile, Mr. Clarke said the reaction of commuters to the fare promotion has been positive.
He is also reporting that there is an indication the JUTC is reclaiming some of its passengers on certain routes.
