Jamaicans in the Diaspora are being challenged to give more assistance to the less fortunate at home.
Pastor of the Faith Temple Assembly of God Church in Montego Bay, Bishop Conrad Pitkin, made the call during his sermon at the 6th Biennial Diaspora Conference worship church service, held on June 14.
The service was the second of two held for Jamaicans and their families from overseas who are in Montego Bay for the conference, which will last from June 15 to 18 at the Montego Bay Convention Centre.
The conference will provide investment, trade, networking and cultural exchange opportunities for the representatives from the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
Bishop Pitkin said those who made the trip to Jamaica for the conference still have love and deep concerns for their country and countrymen.
Citing the number of children being abused and murdered, Bishop Pitkin also called on well-thinking Jamaicans here and abroad to unite against the forces of darkness committing the atrocities against Jamaica’s future.
Bishop Pitkin, who is also President of the Jamaica Umbrella Group of Churches, spoke of programmes being undertaken by the Church, which are designed to uplift and protect the nation’s children.
“We will not stop until everyone gets the message that the time has come for us as a people to stand united (against the evil),” he emphasised.
The Bishop charged the congregation not to be afraid or surrender to intimidation from dark forces, but to become “people of courage, people who will persevere, and people who will stand up and speak the truth.”
Attending the service were Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator the Hon. A.J. Nicholson; Minister of State in the Ministry, Hon. Arnaldo Brown; Undersecretary for Foreign Service Operation in the Ministry, Trecia Elliott; Jamaican Ambassador in the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Ralph Thomas; Consul General in New York, Herman LaMont and Board members of the Diaspora Advisory Council.
