Education Minister Extends Condolences to Families of Slain Students

Minister of Education, Hon. Rev. Ronald Thwaites, has extended condolences to the families and school community of the three students who were shot and killed by gunmen in Clarendon on Wednesday, April 15.

The Minister was speaking at a post Sectoral Debate press conference, held on April 16 at Jamaica House.

The police have identified the students as 14-year-old Ricardo Brisco, 14-year-old Raymond Givans and 15-year-old Alex Turner, all of Hayes, Clarendon. A 35-year-old man, Marquis Hamilton, accounting clerk, was also killed.

Rev. Thwaites informed that counsellors have been sent to the institutions that have been affected, namely Garvey Maceo High School, Central High School and Vere Technical High School.

“This emphasizes the vulnerability of our children and the resolve of our Ministry and everyone here. There is such a tremendous obligation on behalf of principals and school leaders to instruct their students how to avoid the dangers that society places them in and also for us to all work towards a culture of peace and reverence for life,” he said.
