80 Outstanding Educators to be Recognised Sept. 8

Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, will recognise 80 distinguished educators for their outstanding contribution to the development of Jamaica in the field of Education.

The number of persons to be presented with the Prime Minister’s Medal of Appreciation (PMMA) for service to Education, is for the years 2021 and 2022, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Scheduled for Thursday, September 8, the medal presentation ceremony will be held on the Lawns of Jamaica House, starting at 6:30 p.m.

The Prime Minister’s Medal of Appreciation for service to Education is awarded annually and presented to a teacher with a minimum of 15 years service to education in Jamaica and whose service is regarded as outstanding.

To be considered for the award, recipients must have shown evidence of community involvement, including participation in civic and club activities. Educators involved with uniformed groups and programmes that foster the development of the community and creativity in the service rendered, may also be considered for the award.

The medal is presented to persons who are citizens of Jamaica, but in exceptional circumstances, a person who is not a citizen may be recommended to receive the medal.  

The Prime Minister will give the main address. Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen will head the list of dignitaries, which will include the Minister of Education and Youth, Hon. Fayval Williams, and President of Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA), LaSonja Harrison.

The evening’s proceedings will be guided by Simone Clarke Cooper.  Guests are to be seated by 6:00 p.m.
