Expo Jamaica 2014 promises to be bigger and better than previous years, with over 500 buyers registered for the event, exceeding the 380 recorded for its 2012 staging.

The four-day show, to be held from April 3 to 6 at the National Arena in Kingston, will allow buyers, manufacturers, distributors, and investors to showcase all things Jamaican under the theme: ‘Brand Jamaica to the World’/‘The Business Hub of the Caribbean’.

Co-Chairman of the event, Aswad Morgan, told JIS News that a large contingent is expected from the United States of America (USA), the United Kingdom, and the English/Spanish-speaking Caribbean. There will also be representatives from as far as Nigeria, Russia, India, Pakistan, and Czechoslovakia.

“There will be quite a diverse set of people coming in with diverse interest…so we have approximately 240 local corporate entities and exhibitors participating in the event to cater to all these registered buyers,” Mr. Morgan said.

Among the new features for this year’s expo is improved electronic registration, with unique user login. This is aimed at allowing advanced scheduling of business matching meetings, viewing, and saving of exhibitor profiles.

The organisers of Expo 2014 have also partnered with the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) and the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA), which will be launching its ‘Experience Jamaica’ programme. The event will therefore be used to showcase a number of local attractions.

Mr. Morgan noted also, that the Expo Jamaica team has collaborated with the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) to stage a farmers market over the four days. Some 11,000 pounds of fresh produce will be on sale.

The biennial expo is being hosted by the Jamaica Manufacturers’ Association (JMA), and the Jamaica Exporters’ Association (JEA), in partnership with Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO).

It highlights the significant contribution that local manufacturers, exporters, and service providers make to Jamaica’s socio-economic development by creating jobs, earning foreign exchange, and contributing to the country’s revenues.

According to the Co-Chairman, the event provides the opportunity for networking, trading, and the exchange of information among buyers and sellers.
The first two days will be geared at registered buyers only, after which the event will be opened to the public on Friday, April 4 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on Saturday, April 5, and Sunday, April 6, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The opening ceremony will be staged on Thursday, April 3, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
