4 Weeks to Income Tax Filing D-Day

Tax Day is just a month away, and preparations are on in earnest as hundreds of taxpayers seek to meet their Income Tax obligations, by filing their Annual Income Tax Returns for 2023 and Estimated Returns for 2024 by the March 15, 2024 deadline.

The Tax Authority is ramping up its support mechanism, to assist micro and small business persons through its Special Taxpayer Assistance Programme (STAP).

This will see over 260 STAP sessions planned across the island this tax season.

In addition, a customized element is being delivered in partnership with several business and professional groups for their respective membership and or clients, including Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC), The Realtors Association of Jamaica (RAJ), National Commercial Bank and Sagicor Bank.

As the Tax Authority continues to “Get Digital”, it will again be providing Income Tax support virtually this year.

TAJ will host two (2) webinars on Thursday, February 15 and Wednesday, March 6, with the second session specifically targeting sales/commissioned agents.

These virtual STAP sessions are designed to reach taxpayers who wish to avail themselves of income tax support, within the convenience of their own spaces during the lead up to Tax Day.

Business persons who attend the in-person STAP sessions are asked to take along their business records, TRN and valid ID to maximize on the support being provided by tax administration personnel.

The schedule of the FREE island wide support sessions, can be found on the TAJ website at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm along with other information and documents related to Income Tax.

Although all Returns must be filed online, clients are reminded of the suite of electronic payment options at their fingertips to make payments conveniently, securely and quickly.

These include the TAJ Direct Funds Transfer service for business-related tax payments from a customer’s bank to TAJ’s bank accounts.

Additionally, customers can make payments via the Tax Authority’s website www.jamaicatax.gov.jm using a credit card, or other banking card with credit card features or using the Scotiabank’s electronic funds transfer via TAJ’s website.

Taxpayers can utilize Scotia Online and Mobile App, in addition to being able to make tax payments via the National Commercial Bank, as the respective clientele are able to use their online banking platforms by adding TAJ as a Payee.

Income Tax filers still have the option of making their payments at any of the Authority’s 28 Tax Offices.
