PORT ANTONIO — Approximately four tons of fresh farm produce were sold in St. Mary during the latest round of the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA)-sponsored farmers markets held on Wednesday June 29.
A total of 10 farmers brought their goods to the market, which was held at the Trinity Boxing Plant in Port Maria. Vegetables were the produce of choice for the approximately 400 patrons, who turned out to make purchases.
Even with a less than impressive turnout, due to inclement weather conditions, and the event coinciding with another major activity in Port Maria, RADA Marketing Officer for St. Mary, Alfred Dunkley, has expressed confidence that the farmers market will continue to play an important role in the parish, as it enables consumers to purchase good quality agricultural produce at reasonable prices.
He commended the residents for embracing the farmers markets, noting that their continued support will ensure the success of the events in the parish.
