$35B Contingency Provision Earmarked to Support New Public Investment Projects in 2026/27

A $35 billion contingency provision has been earmarked in the 2026/27 Estimates of Expenditure to support new public investment projects approved for implementation during the fiscal year.
The 2026/27 Estimates of Expenditure were tabled in the House of Representatives on February 12 by Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Hon. Fayval Williams.
This contingency provision includes $30 billion to commence implementation of projects related to Hurricane Melissa reconstruction and restoration.
Hurricane Melissa impacted the island on October 28, 2025, causing an estimated US$8.8 billion in physical damage
St. Elizabeth, St. James, and Westmoreland experienced the worst impact from the hurricane, accounting for approximately 63 per cent of the total damage sustained.
The Ministry of Finance and the Public Service is implementing the Government of Jamaica funded project, which is scheduled to conclude in March 2031.
