218 Persons In Shelters

A total of 218 persons are currently in shelters across the island, Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Hon. Desmond McKenzie is reporting.
He said that all of the country’s 881 shelters are now open to accommodate individuals during and after the passage of Hurricane Melissa.
“We have activated all shelters across Jamaica, so…persons who want to go to the shelters can do so,” he said, while addressing a press briefing at the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) at the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management in Kingston on Sunday (Oct. 26).
Minister McKenzie said that the Ministry of Labour and Social Security has made arrangements to provide relief supplies for all shelters.
