$20M Renovation for Grange Hill Health Centre in Westmoreland

The Grange Hill Health Centre in Westmoreland is to be renovated at a cost of $20 million.

The six-month project, to be financed by the National Health Fund (NHF), will include: expansion of the dental clinic, examination areas, and public and staff sanitary facilities; creation of a pharmacy; patient curative/treatment areas; a triage station, where medical treatment priority will be determined; staff lounges; and covered walkways.

Renovation work will be carried out on the patient waiting area, as well as the janitorial, and storage areas; and medical records store.

Health Minister, Hon. Dr. Fenton Ferguson, who made the announcement during a tour of the Type Three facility on February 13, said these activities form phase one of works earmarked for the institution.

Phase two, he further advised, will focus primarily on improving the perimeter security fencing; and inputs related to external lighting, signage, and landscaping.

“I am very happy that, today, we can look and we can take decisions …to move with alacrity to get this done,” Dr. Ferguson said.

The project is part of Government’s Primary Healthcare Renewal Programme, aimed at improving healthcare delivery at the community level.

For his part, Tourism and Entertainment Minister and Member of Parliament for Western Westmoreland, where the Grange Hill Health Centre is located, Hon. Dr. Wykeham McNeill, thanked Dr. Ferguson for addressing the longstanding challenges to the institution’s capability to consistently deliver high quality medical care.

“I want to (also say) thanks to the staff….all who work under difficult conditions (daily),” he stated.

Work has, to date, been completed on 128 health centres, under the Primary Health Care Renewal Programme, with nine currently undergoing renovation.
