The diagnostic centre at the College of Agriculture, Science and Education (CASE) in Portland is expected to be completed in the 2024/25 fiscal year.
A sum of $180 million has been allocated for the undertaking in the 2024/25 Estimates of Expenditure, which was tabled in the House of Representatives by Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Dr. the Hon. Nigel Clarke, on February 15.
The funds will be used to complete construction and equip the diagnostic centre for functional use.
Up to December 2023, construction of diagnostic facilities at Church and Sam Sharpe Teachers’ Colleges in Manchester and St. James, respectively, was completed.
Also, construction of the diagnostic centre at CASE was far advanced, and the biodigester and abattoir were also completed at the Portland campus.
The project, which commenced in April 2015, is slated to conclude in March 2025 after four periods of extension.
The National Education Trust is the implementing agency for the project, which has the objective of establishing three special education diagnostic centres at the aforementioned institutions.
