Fifteen hospitals across Jamaica are to benefit from a donation of bed linen by Continental Baking Company Limited.
The bed sheets, which are enough to cover 4,000 hospital beds, were handed over to Health Minister, Hon. Rudyard Spencer today (December 8), at the Ministry’s downtown Kingston office.
Mr. Spencer said the Ministry is grateful for the support as it will go a long way in helping to fill the needs of the hospitals.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Sheila Campbell Forrester, stated that hospitals are always in need of more sheets and the gift will help to ensure the comfort of patients.
“We just need to recognise that it’s for daily use so the more we can get the better it is for us. Sometimes, you have to change bed linen two (or) three times for the day depending on what is happening to the patient,” she pointed out.
Director of Operations at Continental Baking Company, Mr. Steven Sykes, said the donation is just one of the initiatives being undertaken by his company to help with Jamaica’s development.
“The country needs to move forward and, as a company, we need to be responsible and to lead in terms of making a difference. It’s one thing to have our customers buy from us every day and support us, but there are times when we need to look at how we can support them, and this is one of the ways,” he shared.
