The Government has allocated $14 billion for the continuation of works on the Montego Bay Perimeter Road project.
Being implemented by the National Road Operating and Construction Company (NROCC), the project aims to create a safe and reliable alternative route for motorists travelling across and within Montego Bay.
This will result in less congestion within the city while opening new lands to facilitate structured developments as well as providing a greater link to the toll-road network.
As of December 2024, construction of the Montego Bay Bypass was 65 per cent completed.
Approximately 8.6 hectares of trees have been planted as part of the initiative.
Targets for the upcoming fiscal year include the acquisition of remaining parcels of land needed for both the Montego Bay and Long Hill bypass road construction.
The aim is to complete 90 per cent of construction works on the Montego Bay Bypass, and complete detailed designs of the Long Hill Bypass and commence construction.
When the project is completed in March 2028, motorists will be able to enjoy 15 kilometres of four-lane carriageways from Ironshore to Bogue, Montego Bay and rehabilitated/improved intersections within the city of Montego Bay.
The total estimated cost of the project is $30.3 billion with funding expected to come from the Consolidated Fund over the next three fiscal years.
