A sum of $110 million has been granted to the Ministry of National Security’s Citizens Security and Justice project in the 2004/05 Estimates of Expenditure, now before the House.
This money will be expended to refurbish juvenile correctional centres and family court building in Kingston/St. Andrew, develop job descriptions and procedural manuals for the Department of Correctional Services, commission the User Satisfaction Survey, and develop an action plan for the implementation of a crime and violence report.
Funds will also be spent to train members of the Board of Visitors, train staff of the Department of Correctional Services, procure computers and camcorders for the Victim Support Unit, initiate work for the refurbishing of the Transformation Centre, refurbish community centres and procure furniture and computers for these centres.
The Government and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), will fund the project. Introduced in September of 2001, the programme, which was to be completed in September 2005, has been extended to March 2007.
