The Full Story

A total of $105.13 million has been allocated by the Government for the Hanover Justice Centre’s construction, to facilitate the provision of restorative justice, child diversion and mediation services in the parish.

Details of the allocation are contained in the 2025/26 Estimates of Expenditure, which was tabled in the House of Representatives recently by Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Hon. Fayval Williams.

The centre’s establishment is intended to improve access to justice services by bringing these in close proximity to communities; provide the built environment necessary for the national mediation programme’s implementation; and increase the opportunity for standardisation of administrative processes, eliminate inefficiency and improve performance and service delivery through the co-location of services.

The project also aims to reduce case backlogs through the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and diversion mechanisms; reduce the number of children who are exposed to the formal criminal justice system, in response to crime and wrongdoing; and scale and deepen existing partnerships, including with the Ministry of National Security, towards further building out the Child Diversion Programme.

Construction of the facility, which has commenced, is 15 per cent complete.

It is anticipated that the centre will be completed in fiscal year 2025/26.
