Just over $1.45 billion has been allocated in the 2013/14 Estimates of Expenditure to continue work on the Jamaica Economical Housing Project, being implemented by the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing.

Under the project, work is slated to be undertaken on some 764 service lots, in phase three of the Belle Air development in St. Ann.

The project, which commenced in November 2010, aims to upgrade water, sewerage and road infrastructure in rural communities located in the parishes of St. Ann and St. Elizabeth; and to provide affordable housing solutions in both parishes, primarily targeting tourism industry employees in St. Ann.

Originally scheduled to be completed in December 2013, the project has been extended to January 2015.

Achievements up to the end of February 2013 include the completion of work on sewerage and housing infrastructures in St. Ann.

Funding is being provided by the China Export/Import Bank.
