Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Hon. Fayval Williams, is encouraging Jamaican girls and women to serve in leadership positions.

“Long before I came into politics, I volunteered to be the president of my community association, and I know a lot of people shy away from service and at the time I didn’t know that it was the ideal preparation for a position as a Member of Parliament. The community was just a microcosm of a constituency,” Minister Williams said.

She was addressing Tuesday’s (March 4) International Women’s Day Edition of Post Cabinet Press Briefing, held at Jamaica House.

International Women’s Day will be observed on March 8, under the theme “Accelerate Action”.

Minister Williams underscored that service at all levels of the school system and in the community is good.

“It gets you interacting with persons from all walks of life. It builds your own character, it helps you to remain grounded and so I would encourage that,” she said.

Minister Williams affirmed all women present, pointing out that they are beautiful leaders in their own sphere.

“I want you to continue to be that way, to be positive in all things. I want all women across Jamaica to know that your voice matters and that your engagement is necessary and invaluable to building the great Jamaica land we love,” she stated.
