Two Major Projects for Western St. Mary

The Government has approved expansion of the Boscobel Aerodrome and the development of a specialist hospital in Tower Isle, two major projects in Western St. Mary.
The expansion of the Boscobel Aerodrome will cost US$1 million. Improvements will be made in areas such as lengthening the runway, expanding the terminal building, granting immigration and customs status, and having the runway lighted.
“We envisage that in the end, this will attract the high-end of the tourism market to spend more time in Jamaica,” Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Local Government Reform, Robert Montague, said during his contribution to the 2008/09 Sectoral Debate in the House on June 24.
In addition, the State Minister noted that the development of a specialist hospital in Tower Isle under the ‘Miracle Eye’ programme, is set to become a reality in this financial year.
“This is being facilitated through a partnership between the Government of Jamaica, and the people and Government of China,” he said.
Mr. Montague, pointed out that the proposed facility would have two state-of-the-art operating theatres, laser guided surgical equipment and ultra modern rehabilitation facilities, which should make the hospital a world class facility catering to Jamaicans and other persons in the region.
