The Full Story

In an effort to better prepare students for the Primary Exit Profile (PEP) examinations, the Curriculum Unit in the Ministry of Education and Youth (MoEY) will be providing the usual support. This is aimed at building the capacity of teachers and empowering students as they prepare for their exit examinations.

In a bulletin issued by the MoEY, it was stated that several teacher-training sessions targeting grade-four-to-six teachers will be conducted during the period February to March 2022.

The training sessions will expose the participants to the competencies required for the various components of PEP, treat with identified misconceptions, and target specific skills required for key National Standards Curriculum (NSC) focus areas.

The intended outcome of the training sessions is to prepare teachers to use novel strategies and resources to engage students for final PEP preparations during the Student Camps.

Meanwhile, students support facilities have been designed to utilise a range of modalities. These include the Digicel Go Loud App, television and online sessions targeting activities from the Student Camp Booklets. Camp Lessons will also be aired on the Ministry’s e-Home School Network (eHSN) on the Ready TV platform and on the Public Broadcasting Corporation Jamaica (PBCJ).

PEP provides a profile of where the student is academically, the student’s strengths and weaknesses, and their readiness for grade seven. It assesses students’ knowledge, in addition to placing increased emphasis on assessing students’ skills of communication, critical thinking and creativity.
