By decision of the Cabinet, Former Governor General the Most Honourable Sir Howard Cooke, ON, GCMG, GCVO, CD, is to be accorded a State Funeral.
The State Funeral will take place at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, 1 George Headley Drive, Kingston on Friday, 8th August 2014 commencing at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the National Heroes Park.
State Funerals are accorded to Governors General and Prime Ministers and such other persons who the Cabinet may from time to time determine.
An elected member of the West Indies Federal Parliament in 1958, and a member of the first Parliament of Independent Jamaica in 1962, Sir Howard served as Governor General of Jamaica from 1991-2006.
Details of the period of the State mourning, Signing of Condolence Book and Lying in State will be announced.
